Some people are just born lucky. They are born with a silver spoon and inherit great wealth. Some marry into wealth and some have the luck to strike a lottery. But most of us are not that lucky. There is only one option left for us - work hard and learn how to invest money.
Working hard sounds like, hmm... hard work, and most people are not willing to work that hard. That brings us to the most common trait that millionaires have, that is, motivation. Without motivation people will just be lazy and procrastinate. They will always choose the path of least resistance and be stuck in their comfort zone. Motivation is to have that burning desire that is like a fire that really consumes us. It gives us a clear vision where we want to be and to reach there in the shortest time.
Ng Lian Lu was born to an average family in Sekinchan in Malaysia. He had serious health problems and even lost an eye when he was a kid. These problems affected his ability to study. By Form 3, at fifteen years old, he had still not mastered his ABCs!
One day his brother went to study abroad. He was so inspired and he wanted to follow his footsteps. He told himself, "I will not be stuck in a small place and amount to nothing in my life!" These words burned in his mind with such intensity that he focused all his energy into passing his Form 3 exams. He got extra tuition for the purpose and when the year-end exam came he passed and was promoted. He passed his subsequent exams and finally got to realize his dream of studying abroad.
He studied actuarial science in the US and went on to become the CEO of a big corporate, Amassurance, in Malaysia. He held the post for ten years until his recent retirement; the longest held by any CEO of that company. You can read his biography, From Kampung Boy To CEO, and be inspired.
Ng's success story is an inspiration to every aspiring millionaire. It proves that the first and most important criteria for success is to have a burning desire. Not only to become a millionaire, but also to become the next world champion badminton player. Or to achieve success in any other endeavor.
